What to keep in mind regarding rubber stamps?
A rubber stamp, by nature, is a very small format, and therefore it is necessary to follow certain rules to avoid unwanted results. The most common problems involve small, illegible fonts, as well as fine details that either get flooded with ink or cannot be manufactured onto the rubber die at all.
Stamp Safe Zone
The stamped impression area should be 0.5 mm smaller than the physical size of the stamp on each side. For example, a Large Stamp with dimensions of 58.5 x 23.5 mm will have a real impression size of 57.5 x 22.5 mm. In the image below, you can see a red line that is already outside the safe zone. The usable graphics zone ends at the black line.
Small Graphic Elements – Fonts, Lines, Dots
Font choice is a crucial element of a rubber stamp. The font must not be smaller than 2.35 mm in height – this applies to uppercase letters (capital letters). If the font is smaller, it becomes illegible, and the ink begins to flood the font's counters (the enclosed spaces in letters like a, e, b, etc.). We highly recommend using sans-serif fonts for stamps, such as Arial, Roboto, Raleway, and similar. Of course, it is possible to use other fonts, like serif or decorative ones, but you need to keep in mind that these must be even larger than 2.35 mm.
In addition to text, graphic elements are often placed on stamps. Lines are among the most frequent graphic components, appearing as both printed and inverted (e.g., black and white). A printed (black) line can have a minimum thickness of 0.1 mm; however, at this thickness, the line appears shaky, which is why we recommend a thickness of 0.2 mm. In the case of inverted (white) lines, the minimum thickness is 0.4 mm. Any line below this size will be flooded with ink.
Another graphic element often found on stamps is dots, again in both variants. The smallest dot that still resembles a circle has a diameter of 0.4 mm in the printed version (black) and a diameter of 0.7 mm for non-printed circles (white). Below these dimensions, it will no longer form a proper circle.
